Your Holiday Glow-Up Timeline: When to Book Botox, Filler, Microneedling and More

Plan now, glow all season ✨

The holidays sneak up on all of us. One minute it's pumpkin season, and the next you're standing in front of the mirror the morning of the family photo wishing you'd booked that appointment three weeks ago.

Here's the good news: if you start planning now, you have plenty of time to look refreshed, rested and completely like you for Thanksgiving, holiday parties and New Year's Eve. The secret is timing. Every treatment has its own "settle in" period, and booking in the right order makes all the difference.

Every year around mid-December, I get the same text: "Is there any way you can squeeze me in before Saturday?" I always try. But I'd much rather help you plan ahead so you're not stressing the week of.

So here's the timeline I walk through with clients at Skin Affaire MedSpa in Excelsior Springs, serving Liberty, Kearney, Lawson, Richmond and the Northland.

Why Timing Matters More Than You Think

Most aesthetic treatments don't show their final results the same day. Botox takes time to kick in. Filler can have a little swelling or bruising before it settles. Microneedling and peels leave your skin a bit pink for a few days before the glow shows up.

Book too late, and you could be showing up to the party mid-recovery. Book at the right time, and you walk in looking like you just got back from vacation.

8+ Weeks Out (Start Now): Laser Hair Removal and Weight Loss

Start now

Laser hair removal

Fall and winter are the best seasons to start laser hair removal. You're spending less time in the sun, which matters because tanned skin and laser treatments don't mix well. Most people need a series of sessions spaced several weeks apart to catch hair in its active growth phase, so starting in October means you'll see real progress by the holidays and be well on your way to smooth, stubble-free skin by swimsuit season.

GLP-1 weight loss

If you've been thinking about medical weight loss, the holidays don't have to be a "start in January" situation. Our GLP-1 and metabolic health program begins with lab work and a consultation so we can build a plan that's safe and right for you. Starting now gives you support and coaching through the most indulgent season of the year, not after it.

6 to 8 Weeks Out: Microneedling for Smoother, Brighter Skin

6–8 weeks

SkinPen® microneedling creates tiny, controlled channels in the skin that encourage your body to produce fresh collagen. It's a favorite for fine lines, acne scarring, enlarged pores and uneven texture.

Microneedling is one of my personal favorites, because the results look like your skin, just better. Collagen doesn't rebuild overnight, so the best results come from a series of treatments spaced about four to six weeks apart. If you'd like a single "glow" session before an event, book it at least one to two weeks ahead. Most clients are pink for one to three days, and you'll want to give your skin a short break before wearing full makeup.

2 to 4 Weeks Out: Botox, Filler and Peels

This is the sweet spot for injectables, and it's when our schedule fills up fastest.

2–3 weeks

Botox, Xeomin or Dysport

Neurotoxins soften expression lines like forehead lines, frown lines ("the 11s") and crow's feet. You'll start seeing results in about three to seven days, with full results around two weeks. Booking two to three weeks before your event also leaves time for a quick touch-up if needed.

My tip: If you want to look your best for Thanksgiving and New Year's Eve, an early November appointment covers both, since results typically last about three to four months.

2–4 weeks

Dermal filler

Filler restores volume to lips, cheeks and under-eyes and smooths deeper lines. You'll see a difference right away, but some swelling or bruising is normal for the first several days. Book at least two weeks before your event (three to four weeks for lips, which tend to swell more) so everything has fully settled by photo time.

Chemical peels

A chemical peel is a wonderful way to refresh dull, tired skin after a summer in the sun. Depending on the strength, your skin may flake for several days, so give yourself two to four weeks before a big event.

The Week Of: Facials and a Little Extra Boost

Party week

Want instant, red-carpet radiance with zero downtime? Our HydroGlow and carbon facials leave skin clean, plump and glowing, perfect a few days before your party.

Running on empty from holiday shopping and travel? IV hydration or a B-12 shot a day or two before can help you feel as good as you look.

What to Avoid Right Before a Big Event

  • Trying something brand new the week of.Save first-time treatments for when you have a buffer.
  • Booking injectables the day before.Even a tiny bruise can show up in photos.
  • Skipping sunscreen after treatments.Freshly treated skin is more sensitive to the sun, even in winter.
  • Stacking too many treatments at once. We'll help you plan the right order so your skin can recover between appointments.

Make It a Party: Holiday Tox Parties

Bring your girls

Getting ready with friends is half the fun, and some of my favorite nights at the spa have been tox parties. Our tox parties let you and your girls book together for a fun, relaxed night out. It's a great way to plan your glow-up as a group before the holiday season kicks off.

Quick Answers

When should I get Botox before Thanksgiving?
Two to three weeks ahead, so early November. Full results take about two weeks and typically last three to four months, so one visit covers Thanksgiving through New Year's Eve.
How far ahead should I book lip filler before an event?
Three to four weeks. Lips tend to swell more than other areas, so give them extra time to settle before photos.
What can I do the week of my party?
A HydroGlow or carbon facial, IV hydration or a B-12 shot. All have little to no downtime.
